UAF Students Reject HEC Dissolution

The students from the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) on Friday took out a rally to register their protest against the devolution of Higher Education Commission to the provinces. The rally was started from Admin Block and concluded at Iqbal Auditorium. The protestors were holding placards and chanting slogans demanding the government to keep the HEC as federal entity.

 

The Parliamentary Commission on the implementation of 18th amendment headed by Senator Raza Rabbani announced the devolution last month. After that, the opposition to the devolution has gained momentum as educationist and students belonging to various universities showed their reservations. On  Thursday, the vice chancellors from 130 universities at a meeting sought reversal of the decision and demanded President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minster Yousaf Raza Gilani not the devolve the HEC.

 

The protestors rapped the decision for, what they said, it will affect the quality of education badly. They urged the government to keep the HEC intact, terming the HEC a beacon of hope to a bright future of Pakistan. The commendable job being done on the part of HEC to promote education in length and breath of the country and has established its international reputation, they added.
